The Yarra Council meeting went ahead as scheduled last night, and the Council promised action on the mega site at VCAT. They have committed to refuse the 3 building mega proposal when the hearing is scheduled in the next few months.

This won’t stop the proposal going to VCAT, but it confirms Councils position in that hearing is firm, representing the community and the agreement in the DPO.

The buildings to be refused are the 12 storey application, and 3 other buildings that form the ‘Artisan West’ precinct.

Refusal for the building in the ‘Outer Circle’ precinct is because the buildings are too close together, and 8 storeys high.

The ‘Wetlap’ building was approved by council, on the basis that the height was 1.2m outside the preferred range only where the basement protruded due to the slope of the land.

The community is not invited to attend or participate in VCAT hearings, however there is a public gallery. A community presence is planned to demonstrate support to the Yarra Councilors and professional staff who will represent us in the hearing.
