Discussions about the long term plan for ownership of the Riverfront land have now been resolved with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) to have the riverfront as Crown Land, and to join with Yarra Council as a Committee of Management.
Pushing for a responsible, capable and engaged public body to take ownership for the magnificent Yarra Riverfront has central pillar of APMAG’s platform framework for over a decade, and we consider this outcome to be a win.
This  shows the right mix

  • Long term Public Ownership as Crown Land,
  • An informed and invested State body with the resources and span to see the Yarra as a whole
  • Local representation by Yarra Council that is accountable to the local community

It’s important this place stays beautiful, natural and public.

We have high hopes this arrangement will be a good starting framework. Many decisions are yet to be made about the final approach to the riverfront, and Yarra Council expects to make some initial decisions in February.
APMAG expects this decision will now clear the way for Glenvill to complete restoration of the riverfront damage after the heavy spring rains.

We trust Yarra and the DELWP will work together with Glenvill to support this stretch of the Yarra to remain a beautiful natural environment, deeply connected to the total river ecosystem, and accessible to the growing community who love it.
