Riverfront Path open –  looking worse for wear

A beautiful walk isn’t just a nice to have these days – it’s become a prescriptible Mental Health plan all its own!
So we are are beyond grateful that the path along the riverfront we all love has reopened.

The link between the Bridge and the old Pool is being well used!

But it is certainly not the natural, peaceful path it once was. When you put together the fences, earthworks, track scarring and erosion, there is significant damage. APMAG has been pursuing with Glenvill, and Council, to know when  the damage to the park and approaches will be repaired. We have assurances it should be done soon, so we watch this space.

Riverfront Trees being reviewed by the Arborist

Yarra has an arborist reporting on the status of the mature trees along the riverfront and how they have fared after the long period of flooding and erosion after the ongoing drainage issue.
They have required that Glenvill  engage an arborist, who has assessed the trees again recently.
Their condition is reported as stable, as for most trees there are no further leans etc.
As we move into Spring and foot traffic returns, the area will remain a dynamic topic.

The whole monitoring of the river bank via water wells and tree monitoring is occurring under Yarra’s monitoring requirements.

Riverfront Ownership

Discussions about the long term plan for ownership of the Riverfront land goes on.
This has been a central pillar of APMAG’s concerns in the development framework.

It’s important this beautiful, natural public space
stays beautiful, natural and public.

The debate centers around the role of Crown, State, and City of Yarra ownership.
This has been going for 10 years now.
Right now is the time to get it solved.
Damage has been done and care needs to be delivered to protect the space for the public.
There is no resolution at this stage.

There have been senior meetings at the  DELWP (Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning) this week, but no decision as yet.  Yarra is keen to see the land and responsibility gifted from Glenvill to the State of Victoria AFTER Glenvill has achieved full remediation.
That would be ideal and APMAG is keen to see Yarra work to achieve it.
