Extra Asbestos Risk Management as the demolition continues

Demolition continues on the Boiler House Building – one of the long running sagas on the APMAG agenda.

The big issue right now is the careful handling of asbestos.

There is significant known asbestos in the building, and management processes are in place and being actively monitored.
There is also an Industrial Hygienist on site, to keep an active watch for unexpected asbestos not yet identified in the risk management plan.
While risks are present, APMAG has been talking actively with the council and Glenvil, and it appears they are being actively managed by qualified people.

Community responses to the demolition continue to be mixed – some are sad to see a local landmark fall, and remember family who worked on the site.
Others remember the fumes and noise it used to put out, and the workplace safety horror stories.

The Boiler House architecture – a unique example of some key construction and design styles – has also been a topic of significant Heritage decision making and campaigning over the years. Locals have been passionate on many aspects of the debate.

Either way, its a defining moment in the ongoing re-shaping of our community.
