The October newsletter for Yarra Council is out – and it lists several important policy projects in their Strategy Update that are  wrapping up for the year.. They will go to council in November / December for community input. Check the website for those important to you!

  • Yarra Planning Scheme – first commenced in 2015, the new Yarra Planning Scheme has undergone the biggest overhaul for many years and should ensure future revisions are less time consuming. Public input will probably be sought early in 2020.
  • Open Space Strategy – this will determine where and how new open space will be provided in Yarra in the next 10 years.
  • Climate Emergency Plan – a draft will be available for public input probably in December. Please be ready to have your say so we can get on to the actions quickly.
  • Nature Strategy – this is the biodiversity strategy which will guide protection and enhancement of biodiversity and habitat in Yarra. It is a new strategy for Yarra and has a strong community action /citizen science component.
  • Social and Affordable Housing Strategy – this will be a revision of the current strategy. It should be read in conjunction with our Homelessness Strategy, a new strategy altogether. Both will probably be on exhibition in November/December.
  • Social Justice Charter – this is another new strategy for Yarra but driven by community values and emerging issues.

There will be an additional council meeting on 26th November to get through all these strategies.
